When applying for a credit card do student loans count toward your credit?

A friend told me that when you are applying for a credit card student loans make you look like you have good credit even if you haven't started paying them back yet. That sounds a bit wonky to me. Any thoughts?|||That usually is true for most lenders. The credit you have from student loans count towards getting other credit. But it can backfire against you if you have high balances and have not started paying back. it will look as if you are using 100% of your available credit?
