How to get your first credit card?

Ok so I just turned 18 and I kinda want to get a credit card, but I have no clue how to get one, do I need to call a credit card company, or can I apply for one online.... Also does it cost anything to have a credit card? And could you recommend a good company to get a credit card from|||You need to educate yourself on what credit is before trying to apply for anything.





At your age, you have no credit history, so most likely the only card you can get will have a small limit of about $300 %26amp; a very high interest rate, likely 25 to 28%. This card will also have a yearly fee that will be spread out over 12 months in monthly charges to your card.





Don't go blindly applying for cards as most will likely turn you down, causing you to have numerous inquiries on your credit report, and all those inq's will scare away new recipients of your next application.





Education is your best defense in getting a card that will approve you.





Just a few that will turn you down this early in your search: AMEX, Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, Discover, at least. I know there are more.|||Since you just turned 18, you may find it nearly impossible to get qualified for a credit card. You can apply, but, you are going to have to meet income requirements and prove that you earn enough to support a credit card. Have you been employed at least 2 years? Another way to get one is have a parent cosign. You shouldn't apply because you *kind of* want to get one. Getting credit is a huge responsibility that a lot of young people are just not ready for. Credit cards are not free money. You have to have a way to pay what you use back.
