How do i remove annual fee on my credit card?

I have about 5 credit cards and it seems like 2 of them (both capitalone) carry an annual fee of $39. I'm in the process of closing one of them with a $0 balance since capitalone operator refuses to remove the charge. So my question is is there a better way at getting the credit card companies to remove this unecessary fee w/o closing the account, which I've heard causes your FICO score to go down?|||Closing an account does not necessarily make you FICO score go down BUT if you only have a few credit cards, it would. What you can do is call Capital One and tell them you DO NOT want an annual fee. They can switch your account into one that does not have an annual fee (because they do have them) BUT the interest rate WILL be higher! But if you pay it off each month, it wouldn't matter. Hope this helps!|||There are a lot of FREE FOR LIFE credit card nowadays. You can actually go to any search engine and it will be able to provide you some sights.





In some banks you can off set the annual fees using reward points or by maintaining an active a/c ( frequent usage of min once a month and etc).





Rgds|||You should have checked to see if there is an annual fee when you applied for the credit cards. They are not going to remove it for you.|||Hello, when you received the credit card it was probably in the documents that you signed in order to obtain the credit card, the annual fee is one way credit card companies get their money. The only way to get rid of the annual fee is to pay the credit card off, many times a credit card holder may make payments but they never actually touch the real bill they are only paying the fees; this is one of the many ways credit card companies make money, another way is to keep a fee instituted that really has no bearing on the customer, but if the customer signed documents agreeing to fees from the company, the customer's hand may be tied until the bill is paid off. The company will not get rid of the annual fee especially if you signed and agreed to have it in the beggining.





Hope this helps|||Some companies charge fees for cards, some don't. Fees are required by law to be disclosed on applications and on paperwork they send you every year or so, but sometimes the fees on the applications are in really small print.





If you have a card that charges a fee, probably to only way to get rid of it is to close the account. Sometimes a lender will waive other fees like over the limit fees, but they're not likely to waive the annual fee.|||call them up and ask them to remove it. When I closed out my 2 Capitol One credit cards due to bad Customer Service, one credit score skyrocketed (TransUnion - 711) and the other plummeted (Experian - 658).





While they won't remove the charge, apply for new ones with no fees.|||I had to answer this when I saw it was Capital One you were dealing with. I also cancelled one of my cards with them for that very reason. When I went to cancel they attempted to give me this or that but I declined. When I told them I wanted to cancel because I didn't want to pay the annual fee, I was transferred to a "supervisor" who said she would waive the annual fee if I maintained the card. I still declined because I was made aware of Capital One's barbaric collection practices from a friend of mine who had to deal with them.





Closing long-standing CC's can affect your score, but in the long run you can recover from it. My score was not affected at all when I closed it. (I checked at one and two months post-closing to see)





So I'd tell them either cancel the annual fee, or close the account. If they want your business bad enough, they will remove the annual fee. Good luck!|||Capital One did the same thing to me, offered me a card with an annual fee, but said they would remove it because my credit is good. I ended up closing the account because they never took the annual fee off. Your best bet would be to just close the account and go with a different company. Good Luck!
